Time And Attendance

Filed under: School of Management — admin at 4:55 pm on Saturday, May 31, 2008

Time and attendance is a human resource protocol designed to track actual employee hours and the leaves taken, in order to provide details to payroll. It is one of the largest categories for timesheet systems on the market and is a serious component of most payroll systems in manufacturing units, government, airports, border checkpoint, healthcare, retail, financial institutions, and educational organizations. Time and attendance helps to control time consuming in time tracking related processes. It is mainly used by companies which have more than hundreds or thousands of employees. It is used to simplify the workforce in the management of a company. Time and attendance provides a range of features including creation of comprehensive shift, rotation patterns, and pay schemes.

At the heart of time and attendance is a time tracking device. Different types of time and attendance equipment, systems, and software are available. In highly developed forms, devices can distinguish people simply by reading their fingerprint, hand or retinas. Time and attendance systems are designed to provide cost effective services in the areas of data collection, access control, job costs, and bell ringing. It offers all the features needed in the pay rules and the systems capture time, edits, assign costs, accounting details and reviews, and approves timesheet submissions to payroll.

Time and attendance automatically computes employee wages and time using the payroll policies of the company. In addition, it gives a clear management report that helps to control overpayment of employees and distribution of labor. By using this solution, job labor costs are forecasted and then compared to actual totals. Time and attendance helps to increase greater control over productivity by granting the accuracy needed in the business operations.

Most time and attendance packages offer schedule management that allows supervisors to maintain and create a schedule for each employee. Additionally, there are rules for scheduling the staff on the basis of overtime, holidays, absences, and break times. A number of companies choose software that allows staff to enter their flex-time hours, vacation time, sick days, and other information directly.

Getting a sexy stomach

Filed under: Fitness For All, Lifestyle Center, Universe Of Health — admin at 3:15 pm on Saturday, May 31, 2008

A flat, sexy stomach complete with six pack abs is the dream for everyone from fitness enthusiasts to the guy who sits on the couch and thinks about exercising. Having an awesome toned stomach is so highly regarded because it is difficult to achieve. In order to get the muscle definition you have to lose that body fat that is covering up your six pack. Everyone is different, but for many, the stomach is one of the last places they lose fat so it can be quite a commitment. To help lose the fat and tone the muscles in your abs there is plenty of abdominal exercise equipment.

One of my favorite workouts is to do some simple crunch variations on a mat at the gym. But when I want to kick it up a notch with abdominal exercise equipment, my first choice is the inflatable exercise ball. These come in various sizes and colors and they can really help improve your workouts if you know how to use them. Doing crunches on the ball forces you to use more muscles because you have to stop the ball from rolling around and keep your balance. There are a variety of other machines at the gym which allow you to set resistance against yourself as you do your crunches, but I like the ball best of all.

Your Guide To The Decongestant Actifed

Filed under: Universe Of Health — admin at 7:06 am on Saturday, May 31, 2008

Actifed is an over-the-counter medicine that works to relieve symptoms from allergies and colds in two ways. The antihistamine properties work to block the body’s production of the biochemical, histamine, which is triggered from allergic reactions to dust, dust mites, pollen, pet dander, trees and grasses.

Actifed also contains a decongestant which works by constricting the blood vessels, while opening up the respiratory and nasal functions. This twofold property of Actifed allows for most aspects of the common cold and allergy to be controlled for several hours at a time. The active ingredients in this drug go by the pharmaceutical names, triprolidine hydrochloride (antihistamine) and pseudoephedrine hydrochloride (decongestant).

Some of the symptoms which can be relieved by Actifed include runny nose, sneezing, cough, nasal drip, sinus pressure and watery eyes. This medication is safe for ages as young as 6-years old as long as they have half of the 1 tablet dosage. For children under 6, a doctor’s recommendation is urged by the manufacturer. Each dose of Actifed Cold and Allergy will work from 4 to 6 hours. The makers claim that Actifed works very rapidly to relieve all symptoms of colds and allergies.

For those who are taking MAOI inhibitors, or who have taken them in the past 14 days, Actifed is not safe. Any sedative, or hypnotics can react adversely with this medication as well. People suffering from hypertension or severe coronary artery disease are also advised against this medication. Smaller doses should be used for those who are suffering from prostrate difficulties.

For nursing mothers, the pseudoephedrine and triprolidine ingredients can harm the baby because they can be excreted into breast milk. However, the FDA gives Actifed a category B rating which means that it is not thought to be harmful to pregnant women. Like most over-the-counter medications for allergy and cold relief, Actifed may cause drowsiness.

On the contrary, it may cause nervousness or excitability in children. As with most medications, Actifed also urges anyone who has a doubt about the medication’s compatibility with another drug they are taking, or about a physical condition they have, should immediately consult with their doctor before using.

The white pills are a biconvex shape and include the writing, “Actifed M2A” on the scored side. The bottle comes with 100 tablets. There are also boxes of the medicine which come with 12 or 24 in each. The company Warner-Lambert Consumer Healthcare created Actifed, however, Pfizer markets the brand now. They make several liquid and gel-cap formulas for cold, allergy, and decongestants.

Ergonomics: Workstation Set-up Do’s & Don’ts

Filed under: Universe Of Health — admin at 4:19 am on Saturday, May 31, 2008

Many of us spend most of our workday sitting at a desk working on the computer, talking on the phone, sending & receiving fax messages. Poorly designed workstations can lead to debilitating neck, back and shoulder pain. This article discusses the importance of a good ergonomically designed workstation that does not necessarily require a large investment in time or finances.

The term ERGONOMICS comes from two Greek words: ERGON which means work and NOMOI, which means natural laws. Roughly translated, ergonomics is the study of human posture and positioning as it relates to the work environment. Proper posture is the key to a healthy musculoskeletal system. Good posture leads to proper alignment of the joints supporting the system against the forces of gravity. This allows our muscles to be positioned at their mid-range where they are strongest and under minimal tension. When the body has assumed proper postural alignment less demand on the joints and the muscles is required to perform movements, thus the body conserves energy and performs daily functions more efficiently. Decreased wear and tear on the joints and surrounding structures is also reduced which is a large factor for decreasing early onset of arthritis.

Work Station Set Up It is well documented that low back pain is a leading cause of missed work days in the United States. More than $4 billion dollars are spent on low back pain each year. Various research studies have demonstrated the effect on poor posture leading to low back & neck pain. Extrapolating this information, we see a direct correlation with poor workstation set up in the office. Below represents an inexpensive means of improving your workstation to decrease the affects of poor posture.

The Chair A properly fitted chair is essential considering much of your time is spent sitting. The “PERFECT CHAIR” for everyone does not exist. Each of us has different requirements based on our height, body proportions and anatomical structure. It is important that the chair has the ability to move in a vertical direction. The hips should be positioned slightly higher than the knees. This will take pressure off the lower back. A chair that swivels 360 is also very important so you don’t have to twist your back when reaching away from the frontal plane. Arm rests are very important for taking stress off the shoulder girdle. The elbow should be positioned at a 90 angle, resting the forearm on the rest. This position will relieve tension on the muscles of the neck and shoulder. Lumbar support is imperative for preventing the slouched position. Slouching in a chair occurs when the lower back forms a “C” shape and you end up sitting on your tail bone. This position places a lot of stress on the lumbar discs which can lead to bulging and eventually slippage of the disc out from their central location. This bulging can lead to numbness, tingling a weakness down the legs. If not corrected, permanent damage to the nerves can occur. A thin pillow, towel or foam can be used in the back of the chair to fill in the space between the chair and your lower back. This will assist in sitting upright, maintaining good spinal alignment. Your weight should be distributed over your pelvic floor muscles. Envision a string tied to your belly button with a 5lbs weight on the end pulling you slightly forward toward the floor. There should also be some weight through your legs and feet, further reducing pressure on the spine. If you are in the market for a chair, test out as many as you need until you find one that works. The most expensive chair does not always equate to the one that is best for you. When you find a chair you think is right, sit in that chair for twenty minutes and see how you feel. Giving the chair an honest workout is the only way you will know if it is right for you.

The Desk and keyboard should be at the height of your arms, maintaining a 90 angle at the elbow. There should be enough room under the desk to slide your legs and chair under the desk. If you are using a computer, the monitor should be high enough so that you are looking straight ahead. If you have to look down, this causes you to come out of a neutral alignment and adds stress to the muscles in the back of the neck. It also increases pressure on the cervical discs.

Telephone If you are on the phone frequently, the best investment you will ever make is a HEADSET One of the most common faulty postures is the phone/neck cradle. This is when you are on the phone cradling the receiver between your ear and shoulder. This causes increased muscle tension throughout the neck and often leads to severe neck pain. A headset will free your hands for typing and allow you head to remain in a neutral position.

Other useful tips Never twist your back to reach for something. If you are sitting in a chair that swivels, use your feet to rotate your body. Twisting the spine may lead to increased stress throughout the back and shoulders. If you are working on a fax machine, telephone, keyboard, etc., try to position the equipment in front of you so there is no twisting required. Finally, try not to sit for a prolonged period of time. You should stand up every half hour just to get the blood flowing through your neck, back & legs. Stand up and stretch by walking around a bit. This will relieve tension from your system and reduce overall stress.

Ten Steps to Writing a Winning Top Ten Article

Filed under: Better Publishing — admin at 7:01 pm on Friday, May 30, 2008

Have ever wished that there were a formula for crafting your expertise into a Top Ten article that will showcase your knowledge, cement your credibility and promote your products and services?

1. Find a problem to solve. Think back to conversations you’ve had with clients, potential clients, colleagues, family, friends and strangers. What are the common problems and challenges that people in your target market face? If you don’t have a target market, get one!

2. Brainstorm many ideas. Get pen to paper or fingers to keyboard and rattle off as many ideas as you can think of that will solve that problem. Don’t judge, filter or edit at this point, simply capture everything that comes to mind. When you think you’re done, write for ten more minutes. Then, walk around for two minutes, come back and write some more.

3. Select the best. Ideally, let some time pass after you’ve brainstormed, so you can look at your list with fresh eyes. Now filter through all of your ideas and choose your favourite ten points.

4. Refine your writing. Be sure that you’re trying to make just one clear point in each item. You can choose to stay conversational and casual with your writing, or you can opt for a more professional style. Either way, read it out loud for a sense of how naturally you’ve put the words together.

5. Be consistent. Make sure each of your items is approximately the same number of lines so it’s laid out nicely on the page. Also, try and assemble your information consistently. If each point has a definition and an explanation, put them in the same order every time.

6. Make your points “pop”. Choose your ten item titles carefully. Many people will only scan your article. If they like what they see in your item titles, they might take the time to read the rest of the article. If they like what they see there, they might take the time to click the link in your author information.

7. Start with a bang. Title your article. Be as clever and creative as you can, but most importantly be clear about what the reader will get by clicking through to read your article. Answer the question “why bother?”

8. Make an offer. At the end of your article, include an author information section (sometimes called a “resource box”) where you offer readers the opportunity to find out more about a specific product or service. Whether it’s to sign-up for your newsletter, call you for a free consultation or visit your website, be sure to spell out exactly what you’d like the reader to do next (and why they should do it).

9. Recruit new eyes. Have another set of eyes look at your article before it’s published. Whether it’s a professional editor or not, they may be able to point out things you wouldn’t have seen, since you’re so “close” to the article.

10. Walk away. While you’re waiting for this feedback, give yourself a rest from the article. File it away and work on other things for a day or two. Don’t let perfectionism get the better of you!

Make sure that malware doesn’t take over your computer. Most computers are not protected and are at risk everyday. Issues happen when people go online and are attacked by malware and have no idea how to protect themselves. Quality depends and so does the price.

The list I just gave you earlier is getting longer and longer and longer. As the spyware fighters get better, the hackers try harder and harder. Making new software to attack different parts of any system made on earth. Just when we thought that XP was locked down, they restarted their attack on Win2k. And they haven’t exactly given up on the other versions of Windows that older computers are using still today. Now no computer is safe any more as people got lulled into thinking that older computers were forgotten. Data loggers, key loggers are just a few programs which harvest info from your computer. Winclear is the only program created specially to auto remove such spywares. If your account was compromised while AccSent was enabled there is a high probability that you either have a security hole in your computer which allowed hackers to take control of your computer or you have a Trojan virus spyware or keylogger software installed on your computer because someone not only had access to your e-gold passphrase they also had access to your email address password. That is why every computer owner needs winclear.

Italian Food-Buon Appetito!

Filed under: Best Food — admin at 4:16 pm on Thursday, May 29, 2008

The pleasures and love of Italian cuisine are known the world over. Italian cookery and recipes vary from region to region, and on the whole it is very healthy and nutritious, using natural ingredients that are in season.

Most traditional and ’speciality’ dishes as we know today, are on the whole derived from simple peasant cookery, for example the Pizza, which could be found a couple of centuries ago on the streets of Naples being sold by street vendors to those that had no cooking facilities of their own at home.

Although there are essential ingredients that every Italian kitchen should have, (including basil, garlic and olive oil!), the most important ingredients are passion and creativity.

Italians take great pride and pleasure in their food, and cooking and eating habits can vary from region to region, even from village to village. Each place has their own unique dishes and ingredients, and even the traditional dishes that are so popular all over Italy are cooked in different ways depending which region you go to. For example, if you eat a lasagne from Naples, it doesn’t have the bechamel sauce as you would expect in the more traditional lasagne. It also has small meatballs (or polpette)as oppposed to mince, and also salami and eggs.

The different regional cooking depends on a number of factors, not only as to what ingredients are most abundant each region, but also historical factors. Naples, for example, was founded by the Greeks, and this had some influence on the Neapolitan way of life. Not only in the language and music, but also in the cookery.

Traditional Italian Menu

Antipasto (Appetizer) e.g. salami, or bruschetta

Primo Piatto (First Course) usually pasta or gnocchi

Secondo Piatto (Second Course) usually meat or fish

Contorno (Side Dish) vegetables or salad to accompany the meat

Dolci (Sweet) Fresh fruit is usually eaten as the preferred option

Bread is also usually always eaten alongside the meal.

North of Italy

Some original and unique types of ingredients and cooking originated from the north; Balsamic vinegar (Modena), pesto (Liguria), and tortellini (Bologna) to name but a few! Other food characteristically eaten in the North is Polenta, that can be eaten in many different ways, e.g fried and even in a polenta cake. Dishes in the North tend to be a bit ‘heavier’ than that in the South, (think the ingredients used for Spaghetti Carbonara compared to the classic healthier and lighter tomato sauces of the South!)

Central Italy

Central Italy is very diverse, and such regions as Rome, Florence and have little in common. Some examples to be found all around central Italy are Porchetta (pig stuffed with rosemary and fennel), pork, lamb, black truffles and porcini mushrooms.

South Italy

Characterized by the abundance use of fish, aubergines, peppers, olives, the spicy ingredient pepperoncino, and first and foremost the tomato, which has a huge industry in Naples. In the Naples and Campania regions, there is some Spanish and French influence to be found in the cookery. Pizza and pasta are especially popular and traditional, the Pizza Margherita having been born in Naples. In Apulia, they have a diet rich in fish (mussels and oysters being a speciality)and vegetables. The orecchiette (little ears)pasta is also from Apulia.

Buon Appetito!

Vegetable Protein Has One Definite Advantage Over Meat Protein

Filed under: Best Food — admin at 2:34 am on Thursday, May 29, 2008

While it’s still controversial which one is better, most recent
study shows one definite advantage of vegetable protein over
meat protein is that plant protein can help lower blood
pressure. Those who consume a lot of vegetable protein have
lower blood pressure.

Researchers at Imperial College London did a survey on nearly
4700 people from the UK, the US, Japan and China. They found
that the more vegetable protein the subjects said they had, the
lower their blood pressure.

The report published in the journal Archives of Internal
Medicine suggested vegetarians tend to be lighter than
non-vegetarians, and that the amino acids and magnesium found in
plant protein may play roles in lowering blood pressure.

Since the study shows plant protein has some benefits that meat
protein lacks, it is recommended we add some amounts of
vegetable protein in our diet for better health. Good sources of
vegetable protein include whole grains such as corn, wheat,
oats, milo, barley, soya products such as tofu, soya milk, nuts
and seeds like peas, beans, peanuts, almonds, pipe nuts etc. A
well balanced diet including certain amounts of plant protein is
definitely better than a diet that gets dietary protein from
meat only.

Is it “Couch” or “Sofa?” Which Goes Best with “Potato?”

Filed under: Lifestyle Center — admin at 12:52 pm on Wednesday, May 28, 2008

Blaine Wieland, President of Home Reserve, a fourth-generation
furniture company, settles the long standing debate about
whether it’s “a couch” or “a sofa”.

Fort Wayne, IN December 2005 — “When someone calls their
furniture a ‘couch’ I assume that they must be a comfort driven
person,” he explains. “The word conjures up images of a sleepy
Saturday afternoon or a quiet evening with a book. On the other
hand, when someone calls their furniture a ’sofa’ it seems to
imply that they think in terms of design and how everything
works together in their decorating plan.”

But besides personal style, which is the right term to use? The
answer is sofa. The reason is simply because couches are not
sofas. A couch is the armless variety of furniture that one
would have seen in the Victorian period, as in “fainting couch.”
It was a place for the ladies wearing those tight fitting
corsets which restricted breathing to be able to “sit a spell.”
The root of the word from the French has to do with “to lie
down.”

In our more modern times, we’ve added arms, taken off the legs,
and call it a sofa, which is in keeping with the Arabic roots of
that word which implies a meaning along the lines of “a bench”
or someplace meant for reclining or sitting, but not laying.

Blaine added, “So there it is. Here in America what most folks
have in their living room is a sofa. They may call it a couch
but a sofa by any other name is still…a sofa. Use this
information with caution. You can go ahead and feel superior
when you overhear someone using the wrong term but don’t point
it out. It won’t do to go around irritating all the ’sofa
potatoes.’”

Home Reserve, LLC makes ready-to-assemble sofas, loveseats,
chairs and ottomans. Sold directly to customers via the
Internet, this new furniture category offers built-in storage,
changeable covers in 60 fabrics and shipping in 5 to 10 business
days via UPS. Their web address is www.homereserve.com.

Nobody Signing Up For Your Newsletter?

Filed under: Web Of Marketing — admin at 4:31 pm on Tuesday, May 27, 2008

Question: Why is nobody signing up for my newsletter? I know
that’s where the money is, but I just can’t get anyone to sign
up. What can I do?

Signed - Yoo hoo… Anyone there?

Dear Yoo hoo… Anyone there? Please don’t feel badly. I
actually get this question a lot in my consulting business. It’s
a very common problem and, fortunately, one that you can start
improving today.

Here is the short version of the checklist I go through with
clients when examining ways to fix this problem.

1. Where do I sign up? The first thing I do when I’m helping a
client is to play the game called “Where’s the signup box?” If
it takes me more than half a second to find the newsletter
signup form, then we’ve got work to do.

Your signup box should not be a challenge to find. If it is,
it’s defeating the purpose. So, put it front and center in the
top third of your page. It’s not even a bad thing if you have it
on your page … gasp… twice.

Also, most people have pop-up blockers now, so don’t rely on a
pop-up to get you a parade of traffic. Pop-ups and pop-unders
are great, but they can’t be the only ways to get people on your
list.

2. What am I signing up for? The next thing I check is the copy
in the signup box. If your best sales pitch is “Sign up for my
mailing list” or “Sign up for our newsletter” - then forget
about it!

It used to be years ago that’s all you needed to say, but now
people need a little more explanation and encouragement. Will
you be providing tips, ideas, freebies, coupons, resources or
advice? Let me know what I’m getting into before I’ll hand over
my email address…. And it better be good.

3. Why should I sign up? A little bribery can go a long ways.
Will I get a bonus for signing up? Do you have a special report
or a freebie for me? No? Well, get to work. There’s a lot of
competition out there, so don’t be afraid to offer a little
extra to your visitors.

4. How do I sign up? The last item on my checklist is the
sign-up procedure. If you’re using a service that makes me jump
through too many hoops, then I’ll probably give up and move on
to something else. Yes, double opt-in is good, but programs that
make you join and jump too many times are just ridiculous.

Plus, if you’re asking for too much information (like my
telephone number), I’ll likely pass. There’s no email list worth
me getting phone calls during dinner. It doesn’t matter how good
your mailing list is.

So, there you have it. Start with this quick checklist to see
immediate improvement in your sign-ups. As far as getting
traffic to your site to see your signup box - that’s another
article in the making.
