It is generally ok to pronounce that the era of the VCR is gradually on its approach out & drawing to a close, VCR could still be all over for an extended time & it is tremendous to notice how many individuals actually still have them and watch their rom-com’s on them. The piece of small electronics which is key for all couples to have is the DVD player, which is gradually now branching out to the Digital Versatile Disc Recorder. When Digital Versatile Disc recorders were 1 st put together they were extremely expensive.

It is currently possible to pick up a sale-price DVD Recorder if you look hard enough and conduct a bit of research. Customers get befuddled with the distinctions between a DVD recorders & Digital Versatile Disc burners; they are 2 completely different bits of technology, although both do create DVD’s through burning via a laser to a blank DVD disk. All DVD recorders can record from any analogue video source, most can record video from digital camcorders via firewire.

The sensational thing now is that DVD recorders have under no circumstances been so inexpensive; consequently it is realistic for you to acquire a top of the range system for a very cheap price. Your next big choice after deciding what brand is whether you want one that has a pretty cool hard drive installed in it like the Cyberdyne one.

Security Risks and Ways to Decrease Vulnerabilities in a 802.11b Wireless Environment

Filed under: Hardware Hall — admin at 1:16 am on Monday, June 16, 2008

Introduction

This document explains topics relating to wireless networks. The main topics discussed include, what type of vulnerabilities exist today in 802.11 networks and ways that you can help prevent these vulnerabilities from happening. Wireless networks have not been around for many years. Federal Express has been using a type of wireless networks, common to the 802.11 networks used today, but the general public has recently just started to use wireless networking technology. Because of weak security that exists in wireless networks, companies such as Best Buy have decided to postpone the roll-out of wireless technology. The United States Government has done likewise and is suspending the use of wireless until a more universal, secure solution is available.

Background

What is Wireless?

Wireless LANs or Wi-Fi is a technology used to connect computers and devices together. Wireless LANs give persons more mobility and flexibility by allowing workers to stay connected to the Internet and to the network as they roam from one coverage area to another. This increases efficiency by allowing data to be entered and accessed on site.

Besides being very simple to install, WLANs are easy to understand and use. With few exceptions, everything to do with wired LANs applies to wireless LANs. They function like, and are commonly connected to, wired Ethernet networks.

The Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance [WECA] is the industry organization that certifies 802.11 products that are deemed to meet a base standard of interoperability. The first family of products to be certified by WECA is that based on the 802.11b standard. This set of products is what we will be studying. Also more standards exist such as 802.11a and 802.11g.

The original 802.11 standard was published in 1999 and provides for data rates at up to 2 Mbps at 2.4 GHz, using either FHSS or DSSS. Since that time many task groups have been formed to create supplements and enhancements to the original 802.11 standard.

The 802.11b TG created a supplement to the original 802.11 standard, called 802.11b, which has become the industry standard for WLANs. It uses DSSS and provides data rates up to 11 Mbps at 2.4 Ghz. 802.11b will eventually be replaced by standards which have better QoS features, and better security.

Network Topology

There are two main topologies in wireless networks which can be configured:

Peer-to-peer (ad hoc mode) - This configuration is identical to its wired counterpart, except without the wires. Two or more devices can talk to each other without an AP.

Client/Server (infrastructure networking) - This configuration is identical to its wired counterpart, except without the wires. This is the most common wireless network used today, and what most of the concepts in this paper apply to.

Benefits of Wireless LANs

  • WLANs can be used to replace wired LANs, or as an extension of a wired infrastructure. It costs far less to deploy a wireless LAN than to deploy a wired one. A major cost of installing and modifying a wired network is the expense to run network and power cables, all in accordance with local building codes. Example of additional applications where the decision to deploy WLANs include:

  • Additions or moves of computers.

  • Installation of temporary networks

  • Installation of hard-to-wire locations

Wireless LANs give you more mobility and flexibility by allowing you to stay connected to the Internet and to the network as you roam.

Cons of Wireless LANs

Wireless LANs are a relatively new technology which has only been around since 1999. With any new technology, standards are always improving, but in the beginning are unreliable and insecure. Wired networks send traffic over a dedicated line that is physically private; WLANs send their traffic over shared space, airwaves. This introduces interference from other traffic and the need for additional security. Besides interference from other wireless LAN devices, the 2.4 GHz is also used by cordless phones and microwaves.

Security Issues of WLANs

  • War-driving

War-driving is a process in which an individual uses a wireless device such as a laptop or PDA to drive around looking for wireless networks. Some people do this as a hobby and map out different wireless networks which they find. Other people, who can be considered hackers, will look for wireless networks and then break into the networks. If a wireless is not secure, it can be fairly easy to break into the network and obtain confidential information. Even with security, hackers can break the security and hack. One of the most prevalent tools used on PDAs and Microsoft windows devices is, Network Stumbler, which can be downloaded at http://www.netstumbler.com. Equipped with the software and device, a person can map out wireless access points if a GPS unit is attached. Adding an antenna to the wireless card increases the capabilities of Wi-Fi. More information can be found at: http://www.wardriving.info and http://www.wardriving.com to name a few.

  • War-chalking

War-chalking is a method of marking wireless networks by using chalk most commonly. War-driving is usually the method used to search for networks, and then the person will mark the network with chalk that gives information about the network. Some of the information would include, what the network name is, whether the network has security, and possibly the contact information of who owns the network. If your wireless network is War-chalked and you don’t realize it, your network can be used and/or broken into faster, because of information shown about your network.

Eavesdropping & Espionage

Because wireless communication is broadcast over radio waves, eavesdroppers who just listen over the airwaves can easily pick up unencrypted messages. These intruders put businesses at risk of exposing sensitive information to corporate espionage. Wireless LAN Security - What Hackers Know That You Don’t www.airdefense.net Copyright 2002

Internal Vulnerabilities

Within an organization network security can be compromised by ways such as, Rouge WLANs (or Rouge Aps), Insecure Network Configuration, and Accidental Associations to name a few.

Rouge Access Points - An employee of an organization might hook up an access point without the permission or even knowledge of IT. This is simple to do, all a person has to do is plug an Access point or wireless router into an existing live LAN jack and they are on the network. One statistic in 2001 by Gartner said that, “at least 20 percent of enterprises already have rouge access points.” Another type of attack would be if, someone from outside the organization, enters into the workplace and adds an Access Point by means of Social Engineering.

Insecure Network Configurations- Many companies think that if they are using a firewall or a technology such as VPN, they are automatically secure. This is not necessarily true because all security holes, big and small, can be exploited. Also if devices and technologies, such as VPNs, firewalls or routers, are mis-configured, the network can be compromised.

Accidental Associations - This can happen if a wireless network is setup using the same SSID as your network and within range of your wireless device. You may accidentally associate with their network without your knowledge. Connecting to another wireless LAN can divulge passwords or sensitive document to anyone on the neighboring network. Wireless LAN Security - What Hackers Know That You Don’t www.airdefense.net Copyright 2002

Social Engineering - Social Engineering is one of the most effective and scariest types of attacks that can be done. This type of attack really scares me and can be done for many other purposes besides compromising security in wireless networks. A scenario: Someone dressed up as a support person from Cisco enters the workplace. The secretary sees his fake credentials and lets him get pass the front desk. The impersonator walks from cubicle to cubicle, collecting user names and passwords as he/she goes. After finding a hidden corner, which seems to be lightly traveled, he plugs an insecure Access Point into the network. At the same time he configures the Access Point to not broadcast its SSID and modifies a few other settings to make it hard for the IT department to find this Rouge Access Point. He then leaves without ever being questioned by anyone because it looks like he just fits in. Now, all he has to do is be within 300 feet from the access point, (more if he added an antenna), and now has access to all kinds of secure documents and data. This can be a devastating blow to any corporation and could eventually lead to bankruptcy if the secrets of the company were revealed to competitors.

Bruce Schneier came to my classroom and said the following about Social Engineering, “Someone is just trying to do their job, and be nice. Someone takes advantage of that by targeting this human nature. Social Engineering is unsolvable.”

Securing Wireless Networks

According to Bruce Schneier and others such as Kevin Mitnick, you can never have a totally secure computing environment. What is often suggested is to try and control the damage which can be done if security is breached. One can try many different tools on the market which can help prevent security breaches.

WEP - WEP supports both 64 and 128-bit keys. Both are vulnerable, however, because the initialization vector is only 24-bits long in each case. Its RC4 algorithm, which is used securely in other implementations, such as SSL, is quite vulnerable in WEP. Http://www.infosecuritymag.com/2002/jan/cover.shtml Wireless Insecurities By Dale Gardner. Different tools exist to break WEP keys, including AirSnort, which can be found at www.airsnort.net. Although this method is not a secure solution, it can be used to help slowdown an attacker if other means are not possible financially or otherwise.

VPN and IPSec- IPSec VPNs let companies connect remote offices or wireless connections using the public Internet rather than expensive leased lines or a managed data service. Encryption and authentication systems protect the data as it crosses the public network, so companies don’t have to sacrifice data privacy and integrity for lower costs. A lot of VPN’s exist on the market today. An important note about VPNs is, interoperability does not really exist, and whatever you use for your server has to be the same brand as your clients most of the time. Some VPNs include:

  • Borderware

  • BroadConnex Networks

  • CheckPoint

  • Cisco

  • Computer Associates

DMZ - Adding this to your network enables you to put your wireless network on an untrusted segment of your network.

Firewalls - Firewalls are all over the place. Firewalls range from hardware to software versions. By adding a firewall between the wireless network and wired network helps prevent hackers from accessing your wired network. This paper doesn’t go into specifics about different firewalls and how to set them up, but there are many. Some of the firewalls include:

  • ZoneAlarm (an inexpensive based software firewall) Zonelabs.com

  • Symantec has many different firewalls depending what you require.

PKI - Public-key infrastructure (PKI) is the combination of software, encryption technologies, and services that enables enterprises to protect the security of their communications and business transactions on the Internet. What is PKI? http://verisign.netscape.com/security/pki/understanding.html

Site Surveys - Site Surveys involve using a software package and a wireless device to probe your network for Access Points and security risks.

Proactive Approaches

Since wireless technology is insecure, companies or anyone can take a proactive approach to try and identify hackers trying to gain access via wireless networks.

Honeypots - are fake networks setup to try and lure in hackers. This enables administrators to find out more about what type of techniques hackers are using to gain access. One product is Mantrap created by Symantec.

“ManTrap has the unique ability to detect both host- and network-based attacks, providing hybrid detection in a single solution. No matter how an internal or external attacker tries to compromise the system, Symantec ManTrap’s decoy sensors will deliver holistic detection and response and provide detailed information through its system of data collection modules.”

http://enterprisesecurity.symantec.com/products/products.cfm?ProductID=157

Intrusion Detection - Intrusion Detection is software that monitors traffic on the network. It sounds out a warning if a hacker it trying to access the network. One such free product is Snort.

“Before we proceed, there are a few basic concepts you should understand about Snort. There are three main modes in which Snort can be configured: sniffer, packet logger, and network intrusion detection system. Sniffer mode simply reads the packets off of the network and displays them for you in a continuous stream on the console. Packet logger mode logs the packets to the disk. Network intrusion detection mode is the most complex and configurable configuration, allowing Snort to analyze network traffic for matches against a user defined rule set and perform several actions based upon what it sees.” http://www.snort.org/docs/writing_rules/chap1.html#tth_chAp1

Network Monitoring- Network Monitoring would be products such as snort that monitor the flow of traffic over the network.

Quick tips and tricks

  • When setting up wireless networks and access points there are a few quick steps that can be taken to immediately secure the network, even though it does not make it secure. Some of these ways include:

  • Change your default SSID: each router or access point comes with a default SSID. By changing this it can take longer for an attacker to know what type of device he is trying to hack.

  • Change the default password - generic default passwords are assigned to access points and routers. Sometimes the password is admin. By changing this password, the attacker cannot modify settings on your router as easily.

  • Disable broadcasting SSID: By default AP’s broadcast their SSIDs, if you shutoff this setting it is harder for outsiders to find your AP.

  • Enable MAC filtering: WARNING: this can only work in smaller environments where a centralized access list does not need to be maintained. You can enable only specific wireless cards to access the AP by only enabling those MAC addresses.

  • Turn off shares: If security is important, scanning for shares and turning off the shares on the network can help. Also encrypting sensitive data can prevent hackers from accessing the data.

  • Put your wireless access points in a hard to find and reach spot.

  • Keep your drivers on all wireless equipment updated. This helps patch existing security vulnerabilities.

  • Read current press releases about emerging wireless news.

Goji Berries contain Glyconutrients what are the health benefits?

Filed under: Nutrition Hub — admin at 11:00 am on Friday, June 13, 2008

Goji Berries contain Glyconutriest that are a essential for our bodies. Glyconutrients means sweet or sugar. Therefore this means sweet or sugar nutrient and this is a important role in our body. Scientific research has shown that eight simple dietary sugars mostly which are no longer found in abundance in the standard modem diet, are now the form of very words of life at the cellular level. These types of sugars are combined with proteins and fats to create glycoforms that coat the surface of the every cell in our bodies. Glycoforms function as cellular recognition molecules that communicate messages to the body that is needed to function in health. Scientific research has found glyconutritionals can have a vital part in our health.

Foods that contain Glyconutrients.

A. Goji Berries

B. Carrots

C. Radishes

D. Tomatoes

E. Wheat

F. Pears

Goji Berries another name known as Lycium Barbarum. Doctor Earl Mindell met an asian healer he was amazed by what he say that he dedicated the next 7 years to unlock the secrets of this ancient himalayan remedy then found the four essential bio active lycium polysaccharides. After his research Doctor Mindell excitedly said "I believe that Goji juice will have more powerful benefits on health, well being and anti aging than any other food, drug or supplement that I have seen in the last 40 years."

Goji polysaccharides were proved to be exceptional source of the essential sugars like rhamnose, xylose, glucose, mannose, arabinose and galactose. These sugars are highly regarded to be necessary in our immune system and in our proper intercellular communication where in the cells in our body can work together properly in fighting and resisting disease. Because of this Scientists were concluding that Goji may be the richest source of GLYCONUTRIENTS yet found in the planet.

How To Choose The Best Weight Loss Program

Filed under: Medical Parlor — admin at 1:21 am on Friday, June 13, 2008

Overview:

The term obesity strictly denotes a substantial excess of body fat. However, it is very difficult to measure fat content directly in living people and so some measure of weight in relation to height is usually used to indicate an individual’s degree of fatness. In the past, weight-for-height tables were the most common way of assessing people’s weight status. Of late, the Body Mass Index (BMI) has become the usual routine way of measuring fatness. When tested on groups of ordinary adults, BMI is found to be a surprisingly good predictor of body fat content. In some studies, it is almost as good as several of the sophisticated laboratory methods of measuring obesity.

The BMI is the weight (in kilograms) divided by the height (in meters) squared. Obesity is an enduring disease, which means there is continuous widespread accretion of excess fat in the body. Obesity is known to be a precursor to many health problems, particularly cardiovascular disease, hypertension, arthritis and diabetes. Because of the negative health and social implications of obesity, people often seek weight loss programs. Though, there are several weight loss programs, the best weight loss program remains, exercise combined with low-calorie whole foods diet and lifestyle changes. However, choosing the ingredients for an ideal diet in today’s marketplace requires a healthy dose of skepticism, diligence, and a certain amount of fortitude to resist slipping into old convenience patterns.

The most common weight loss strategy is dieting. However, dieting alone seldom proves successful in the long term, particularly if an individual is morbidly obese. The success rate for this supposedly best weight loss program stands a dismal three to five percent. Furthermore, significant numbers of dieters die as a result of anorexia or its complications - they literally starve themselves to death. Other allegedly best weight loss program is use of medications or drugs to control or treat obesity. Most of these slimming-pills work by making a person feel less hungry or making the stomach feel fuller soon. But the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not recommend the use of drugs in the treatment of obesity, as they are found to cause serious heart valve problems.

At levels that are achievable by untrained and especially by overweight individuals, exercise alone is unlikely to be effective in producing substantial weight loss. It needs to be combined with a reducing diet. It must also be said at this point, that in most studies that have looked at the contribution of exercise to weight loss programs, the conclusion has been that exercising has led to only a modest increase in weight loss as compared to dieting. However, when longer-term outcome has been assessed, the evidence suggests that an exercise component increases the chances of long-term success. Once people have lost weight and relaxed their diet, they are less likely to regain weight if their ‘best weight loss program’ includes an exercise element. Remember, keeping lost weight off is even more of a challenge than losing it in the first place.

Summary:

Devising a diet and exercise program is not difficult but keeping to it is. To increase the chances of success, a best weight loss program should ideally take account of factors such as: your likes, dislikes, food intolerances, your pattern of eating, your food preparation skills, your need to fit your diet in with the needs of others, your amount of leisure time and your ability and willingness to incorporate more physical activity in everyday living. The best weight loss program that takes account of these factors and is tailored to your circumstances should have the best chance of success. You may therefore be the “best man” to design your best weight loss program.

Is Your Behavioural Change Strategy Working?

Filed under: Children Fun — admin at 2:29 pm on Thursday, June 12, 2008

‘How can I start getting my children to help out at home?’

Many parent ask me this question. My answer is simple - “It depends!”

Achieving a behavioural change in children is dependent on their age and stage of development, their temperament and attitude, and how set in their ways they are.

Let’s look further at the above helping at home scenario. If the children are four years of age or younger then encouraging them to contribute to their family’s well-being is relatively easy. Most children want to help at home in the early years so it is a matter of parents providing opportunities for them to help and also showing them how they can assist in positive ways. Helping out and independence are habit-forming so the message for parents is start early and hang in there. Young children can help set and clear away meal areas, clear away their toys and help make their beds. Don’t get too fussed about the quality of their endeavours. They wear L-plates in the early years and the prime lesson for them is that they help their family and contribute to their own well-being.

Older children who may have done very little to help can be tough nuts to crack. How do you get a ten year old to help out if he or she has barely lifted a finger to assist in the previous decade? Basically, there are two methods parents can use to get some change in children when habits are entrenched. Either you try to achieve major change straight away or you work away at the margins to affect change.

A parent trying to promote independence in a child can go ‘cold turkey’ and insist that they get themselves up in the morning, make their own lunch, empty the dishwasher and do forth. This is a major change. Parents who take this approach frequently offer rewards such as pocket money or provision of special treats in exchange for help, however rewarders and bribers should be wary. Any parent offering rewards in exchange for help will need deep pockets as today’s jellybeans soon becomes an electronic toy or something equally expensive. Besides they are teaching children to think ‘what’s in this for ME, rather than WE.’ Such parents may be replacing one habit (dependence) with another (self-centredness). !!. I suggest that parental insistence that their children help backed up by sincere and genuine appreciation when they have done the right thing are strong motivators for most kids.

Alternatively, parents can work at the margins and get their children to help little by little. For instance, packing their own lunch may precede making it. Unpacking the cutlery may precede emptying the whole dishwasher. Cleaning ten toys away may precede cleaning the whole room if they have never done it before. Using this method the helping habits sneaks up on children and takes them by surprise.

Either approach is legitimate however sometimes when parents meet with resistance from children or change seems so overwhelming it is better to play around at the margins and go for small changes. We often use the same principle to put some order in our lives when everything seems chaotic. Sometimes just cleaning the clutter away in a bedroom or tidying a desk can help us feel in control and a little clearer when life seems totally disorganised.

Working away at the margins is a strategy many parents have used successfully when they want to get some behavioural change happening at home. Even if children seem totally out of control look for small areas where you achieve some change. Maybe start with them using better manners when they talk with you or insisting they sit at the meal table until everyone has finished. Often small successes bring monumental improvements. Positive change tends to have a snowball affect. Like a snowball rolling down a slope it gathers momentum and increases in size very rapidly.

So what is your usual change strategy? If you get overwhelmed and don’t know where to start then try starting small and working away at the margins. Start where you know you can experience some success and the change will accelerate.

Gaming Establishments Proffering Video Poker - What Everyone Should Know About It

Filed under: Gambling Hall, Online Luck — admin at 5:02 am on Tuesday, June 10, 2008

The trouble of calling on a betting hall provides us with plenty of reasons to drop the idea if you can avoid it. Ultimately traffic jams, the trouble, and to-do lists called for seem not worth the difficulties only for the prospect of risking a game at betting hall, all the same, provided you are a person who greatly enjoys gaming rooms then electing to go for betting in cyberspace will probably be the most obvious option.

For this, you won’t have to leave your desk to try online roulette or other games of choice for you will do everything from your domestic environment assuming you possess a computer with a working internet connection. However, I’d recommend you go on reading for there are many prompts that you need to see about online roulette or other games of choice, notably if you happen to be still inexperienced. So, soothe that tizzy of yours and absorb the following guidelines. Here is my summary which was written up to expound what to be aware of if you’re selecting an honest and trust-worthy online roulette or other games of choice establishment.

The foremost thing that I as a well informed web wagerer should chase out is an online roulette or other games of choice webpage of the sort promoting high winning odds. Make certain that the online roulette or other games of choice webpage is supervised by an honest and trust-worthy bookkeeping company so as to inspect the official wagers’ pay-out regularly. This is productive to determine the loot you plan to risk as a part of your imminent binge will excuse it all.

You must always be sure to check the virtual casino gaming webpage is legally licensed, e.g. by checking out the official warrant on the casino site. If you fail to trace any official warrant on a given virtual casino gaming webpage, don’t try to risk a game on that site.

Yet another tip would obviously be to play for a start with minute sums in place of disbursing more than you can afford to lose instantly. First of all, check the stability of this particular virtual casino gaming structure prior to chancing any major adversity, notably money loss! And here’s another important recommendation about online casino gambling. It can only be this- never to lose sight of the fact that all kinds of gambling should primarily be about amusing yourself and less about big winnings. Betting in an online casino is not a business, instead it’s a diversion that should make you joyful and your life delightful. Sign up for the best jackpot casinos action online today!

Get More Response By Writing Better Response Devices

Filed under: Web Of Marketing — admin at 12:14 am on Tuesday, June 10, 2008

In the classic direct mail package, the response device - the thing the prospect is asked to return, be it fax form, response card or application within a business reply envelope - is often the neglected element. While it may not have the immediate impact of the envelope teaser nor the persuading power of the letter and/or brochure, the response device matters: It’s your last chance to sell.

True, there’s not much space after you create room for the customer’s contact information and (when appropriate) credit card information. But there are a few things you can do to give the response device more power.

Give it a meaningful name. Too often, the response device is literally called the “Response Form” or something similar. Why not give it a name that reinforces your brand or reminds prospects of an important benefit or feature? Perhaps you should refer to it as the “30-Day Weight Loss Initiation Form” or the “First Step to Financial Health Application.”

Give prospects the option to say “no” or “maybe.” It sounds crazy to give prospects a “no” option to check off (after all, if they don’t want anything, why would they return the card at all?), but test after test shows that adding the negative option actually increases positive responses.

Give them a reason to say “yes.” Beside the appropriate checkbox, define the meaning of “yes” by articulating what customers will get when they choose it. For example: “YES, I want a slimmer, healthier me in just 30 days. Send me the 30-Day Weight Loss Kit and the first 30 delicious VitaFix Strength Supplements immediately!”

Give them a “maybe” that keeps them in the loop. Some people may not be ready to commit, yet may be hot prospects in the future. Give them an intermediate offer that keeps them within your reach. Example: “Maybe. I’m not ready to lose weight with your program, but I want more information. Please send me your FREE newsletter, Weight Loss Update.”

Give them a “no” that makes them question their own sanity.
