Do You Know How To Defeat The Browser Hijacker ?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin at 5:48 am on Thursday, February 19, 2009

Your browser now has a new start page and a new search
page. Every time your browser loads a page that doesn’t
exist, you end up at some strange site, probably filled
with popup ads or worse - pornography. Nothing you do, from
resetting the home page in your options menu to rebooting
your machine gets rid of the problem.

If you’re really unlucky, the first new page you try to
load has called up so many pop ups that your machine will
virtually lock up until professionally serviced.

Browser hijacking is a very real and annoying problem. If
the hijacker program starts sending you off to pornography
websites - there’s a real chance it might have caused
pornography to be downloaded onto your hard drive. Porn on
a work computer has the potential to get your into real
trouble.

Spyware, the generic term for software that installs itself
and records your movements, information and other bits to
send back to its source, is a general nuisance. Browser
hijacking is a form of spyware that subverts your browser
settings and leaves you in a bind. If you don’t have
something that can prevent or at least detect and reset it,
you could be in for some trouble.

Many savvy users who discover the problem find it very
difficult to repair. Critical files like “Internet Options”
are missing from the control panel of the operating system.
So, now it’s time to sort through the various .dll files or
.ini file extensions - looking for a configuration that was
altered.

Next, the person experiencing the problem becomes so
frustrated that they delete their browser and try to
reinstall or the worst yet, completely reformat the hard
drive - convinced that it is irreparable.

Well, reformatting will work - but only until the hijack
software has been downloaded once more from wherever it was
retrieved from in the first place. Most anti-spyware
software contains code for detecting and removing browser
hijackers; it requires activation of the software to detect
it for some programs. Other pay versions include real time
blockers that will actually prevent a browser hijacker from
installing itself.

Unfortunately, spyware and its associated brethren are here
to stay. The best defense is to employ protection that will
guard against unexpected software additions and installs.
Hijacking your browser may not seem as criminal as a virus
that eats files, but if you’ve ever experienced your
browser being hijacked, then you’re aware with the
frustration it causes.

One for Ten Cabin Fever in Haines Alaska

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin at 10:35 am on Saturday, February 14, 2009

Mountains, massive piles of rock and earth shaped by glaciers, erosion, and weather; can conjure feelings of awe, enlightenment and fear in people. For millions of years weather systems have shed soft crystals of snow on these massive peaks, and now we stand as mere specs in the history of these giants, aloft on their high ridgelines. As we descend a sensation secretes from our brains pulsing throughout our bodies as adrenaline, sculpting our passion to return to the top of these towering peaks over and over again.

Pursuing their love for the mountains, Jason Shutz, Bill Buchbauer, Annie Fast, Chris Ankeny and Tom Routh headed for southeast Alaska in late April- Haines, Alaska to be exact. Haines has been moderately popular among the ski and snowboard film crews for years, but still contains plenty of pristine wilderness only attainable by glacier plane and split board. The posse, made up of Montanans, headed to Haines for an affordable backcountry trip aboard Cessna ski planes. They were armed with split boards, mountaineering gear, and winter camping equipment. During the first two weeks of April the group bagged a lot of great sunny days up on the glaciers, split boarding new lines and eying up lines for next year.

After a full day of Air Travel from Montana I arrived in Haines, Alaska aboard a single engine Cessna. Haines is positioned at the North end of Alaska’s Inside Passage and at the Northern end of America’s longest Fjord. The town shares its border with 20 million acres of protected wilderness: Glacier Bay National Park is 25 miles by air, and Canada’s Kluane National Park and Tatshenshini-Alsek Provincial Park are just up the road. A Bald Eagle Preserve is also just outside of Haines giving the area an amazing collection of dramatic scenery and plethora of wildlife.

Day Two of my trip was like 99% of Alaska days: it rained. The Montana posse that I came to hook up with spent the day recuperating from a 4-day backcountry camping /split-boarding trip. I sat and listened to spook stories about new uncharted areas with sketchy snow pack, hairball plane flights onto glaciers, and all the great runs in between. Make no mistake; no matter where you ride at home, Alaska is bigger. Everything in AK is big: the mountains, the fish, the wildlife, the trees, everything is just so damn gigantic. The air was getting cold and it was snowing on the peaks; our conversations turned to the next mission once the sun broke again and the stoke began to build among us.

The rain continued for the next eight days with little sign of the sun. Chris, Annie, and Tom went home leaving Jason, Bill, and I to wait for the sun. Pool, darts, scrabble, ping-pong, eating, reading, beer, coffee, beer, coffee, fishing, hiking, and hacky sack became the motion of the days. Cabin fever can invoke some strangeness in people and after eight days of rain and no riding; the walls were closing in - I can’t take it, I can’t take it. Freaking out and pounding your head on the wall is no way to deal with it, sowe ran around in the rain for a few hours. But that was a bad idea. We ate again even through we’d eaten an hour ago, and two hours before that. We were beginning to lose our minds and we only had two days left; The northern lights are out that evening and it was clear - would it be clear in the morning? That was the question.

We talked about just taking some heli runs if the sun did shine because your chances of getting to fly in the heli in moderate light is better than it is in the ski planes. The ski plane pilots need very clear days in order to see the ever-changing landscape that they are landing on, where with a helicopter you don’t need a runway to take off and land. Besides after you land in a plane you usually still have to hike up to the top of your line. The drawback was that there was only one helicopter operating in town and there were six groups wanting to go out. We hoped that the Men’s Journal Adventure Team which was there with a group of ski racers and ski legends would go for their main objective - a peak on the coast; which would mean a lot less of a cluster getting onto the heli.

With the original plan for some glacier plane trips into Glacier Bay National Park for split boarding and a winter camp squashed by the weather, and the chance to heli jaded by the adventure boy team, the drinking waged on and on. The locals say that you can drink it blue.

Well, after nine days of drinking, the sun finally shone, and we headed to the heli at 33 mile for day ten, the last day in Haines. Being on the not so special list, we finally got out at around 4:00pm for two runs with our ultra-cool guide Jim: the first was on “Deflowered” and the second on “Hangover Helper” - short runs in Alaska standards, but pretty damn big anywhere else. The snow was blower, lots of new snow from the eight days of precipitation and just enough cold air to keep it light and fluffy late in the day. All of a sudden it was 7pm and we had to haul ass to catch the ferry. Cramming all of our stuff, the three of us, and Jason’s dog Chewe into the helicopter pilot’s 1970’s Subaru was a bold task, but we got it done; and off to Juneau we went to catch the plane home.

After nine down days I was leaving Alaska 1 for 10. Two long powder runs in the bag made for a relaxing ride to Juneau on the ferry, and many daydreams longing for more on the plane ride home.

Alaska is a land of adventure. You don’t have to be loaded to ride high powdery peaks in Alaska; you just have to have solid backcountry knowledge, glacial travel experience, and knowledge of the local mountains. Three people can catch a ride on a glacier plane (Drake Olson / Earth Center Adventures ( 907- 723-9475) at one time and depending how far you go into the mountains, you can expect to pay about $300 each for the roundtrip in and out. Once you’re there you can explore via split board for the day or camp out for as long as you like; just remember tent fever comes on a lot quicker than cabin fever!

Canon’s New Headquarters

Filed under: Content Resources, Money + Finance, Pressure Groups — admin at 12:13 pm on Thursday, February 12, 2009

Japanese multinational giant Canon Electronics Inc. will transfer its United States headquarters from Lake Success to Melville, Long Island. But it won’t just put together brick and mortar. The project will utilize energy-efficient material.

Coming soon in 2010, Canon’s green nerve center will sit on a 52-acre farmland in LI, where it will be the biggest of its kind. The headquarters will be a verdant space of trees and vegetation crisscrossed by walking trails. Occupying 690,000 square feet — a third of the total land area, will be five-story structures of every environmentalist’s dream. The main office will feature a cavernous inner courtyard, designed to optimize daylight.

For its efforts, the firm will receive a silver ranking from the USGBC’s finicky Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program.

Given that Canon is a world-famous maker of cameras, lenses, printers, photocopiers, fax machines, camcorders, and such, some people might be tempted to suspect its carbon footprint.

There should be nothing of that sort.

Quite the contrary, Canon was hailed last year as the most climate-friendly company by Clean Air-Cool Planet, a nonprofit group.

Certainly enough, any impact Canon has made on the environment would just be a microcosm compared to, say, Royal Dutch Shell’s or Chevron’s. No amount of green buildings will ever compensate for the carbon emissions sold by such companies. On the other hand, Canon sells to shutterbugs, scientists, and everyone else keen on exposing global warming as it really is.

Product Liability and Personal Injury Compensation Claims in the UK

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin at 1:02 am on Thursday, February 12, 2009

There are strict laws in the UK governing the manufacture and sale of products. If a manufacturer sell a product that is defective and the defects cause injury, loss or damage then that manufacturer is liable to pay compensation. Fortunately, suing a manufacturer for compensation in a product liability case is easier than you think.

Products Liability is generally considered a strict liability offence. Strict liability wrongs do not depend on the degree of carefulness by the defendant. Translated to products liability terms, a defendant is liable when it is shown that the product is defective. It is irrelevant whether the manufacturer or supplier exercised great care; if there is a defect in the product that causes harm, he or she will be liable for it.

PRODUCT LIABILITY - FAULTY GOODS

These are cases arising out of a situation where products are defective and cause injury as a result of the defect. If you have been injured as a result of purchasing a standard consumer product which is defective, then you may be able to claim compensation from the manufacturer/supplier as well as individuals/companies through whom the goods may have passed.

Defective household products can result in serious injuries, or even death. Defective household products that injure consumers may result in a product liability claim.

One of the most common terms to arise in product liability litigation is ” defect”. In the eyes of the law this term has a broader meaning than one might expect. The law considers any product which is unreasonably dangerous for its intended use to be defective. In considering this definition, it is important to remember that the term “unreasonably” dangerous is crucial to the meaning of the term “defective”. Thus, a product may be inherently dangerous but have such utility that the danger is one which would not be considered “unreasonable”.

Manufacturers are almost always covered by insurance and claims for damages usually fall into four categories:-

Defective Design means that an item is inherently dangerous because of inadequate design.

Defective Manufacture generally occurs because of a quality control failure ensuring that the item does not achieve the required specification.

Defective Warnings do not accurately reflect the dangers associated with the item or adequate warnings may have been minimized by the salesman.

Negligent Surveillance occurs when a manufacturer does not properly warn consumers about an items subsequently discovered lack of safety.

Great Mobile Phones with Free Line Rental

Filed under: Consumer Life, Help + Advice — admin at 12:50 pm on Wednesday, February 11, 2009

Are you aware that it is perfectly possible to obtain a mobile phone totally free with12 months free line rental? What that means is that you can get a free mobile phone with free inclusive minutes and free inclusive text messages without paying a penny for them!By now your bound to be thinking that this is some kind of scam, but you can rest assured this deal is legitimate! The idea is to beat cell stores at their own game. Understand this, cell phone suppliers advertise free line rental deals simply to get prosepective customers through the door. Before they attach loads of catches to the offers to reduce the number of people that take out and correctly obtain a free line rental mobile deal.12 mont free line rental promotions operate on the basis that customers sign a mobile contract in the usual manner, and pay the bill as normal. Then, at pre determined times within the 12 months of the mobile contract you are able to make a claim for cash back. At this time the shop that sold you the mobile phone sends out a cheque. Usually around three different claims have to be made before you recover 100% of the cost of your mobile. Now heres the deal, the retailers ensure the proces of claiming quite hard, as they ask you provide phone bills (which maybe misplaced). They also dictate particular days for the claim (which you may not remember) and impose various other tricks and loopholes. For this reason you have to be clever and beat them at their own game!Read the contract, make a note of the dates, keep the paperwork and put your claim in punctual and you have every chance of gettinga mobile phone completely cost free for an entire year! The reality is that retailers don’t mind giving away a few of these mobile handsets for free as it makes for a a good promotion for them. Having the ability to promote “cost free cellphones” promotes the standing of their shop, and, as they know just a small number of people will jump past all the clauses essential to obtain a 12 month free line rental mobile, it does not actually cost too much!A 12 months free line rental offer may not be the best choice for everyone as you must be prepared and ensure you properly complete all of the steps of the claim properly, but, a 12 months free line rental deal is for sure something worthy of consideration if you are cost conscious.

Attorney General John Ashcroft Warns Activist Judges

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin at 12:50 am on Wednesday, February 11, 2009

Recently U. S. Attorney General John Ashcroft said that activist judges were a threat to the national security of the United States of America. Most people who heard this let it fly right over the top of their heads. Some of us realized that it was a policy statement that should be understood as a warning to many.

When the executive branch of our government decides that someone is a threat to our national security that person is taken out. They can be killed or put away in some other less lethal fashion but they become useless to whatever agenda they had before.

I can recall how Judge Battle and Judge Miller died of ‘heart attacks’ after it was learned that they intended to give James Earl Ray the trial he had never had for his supposed assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. Nobody can prove that they were killed but many know that a trial on the matter would have shook the very foundations of this country. Many believe that such a trial would have been a threat to our national security.

If these two judges were taken out because of such a threat then it would have been a covert operation. Such an operation is done in such a way that it can never be proven that it happened. If we in the United States kill our own so effectively, who apparently get out of line, then how successful do you think those enemies that plot against us today will be?

There is a sad part of this that I must reflect on. Many will die or be affected in some other very negative way because of their ignorance, not really because they are a threat. Those who truly care about others can help educate the population on how to stay clear of that line whereby they could become a casualty of our war against terror.

WordPress is a fantastic piece of software, and what is even more amazing its Open Source, meaning it will cost you NOTHING!! And you get the source code too !!

Although its not one of the easiest software packages to learn to navigate, it sure packs heaps of power under the hood and once you start to learn some of the basics of WordPress and blogging in general, you will begin to appreciate these features more and more.

There are 2 ways to install WordPress.
1. You can visit wordpress.org and download the full application here, and then manually install it on your server. If you do go down this path, then make sure you check out the following installation guides

and

WordPress’s Famous 5 Minute Installation guide (check it out at http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Famous_5-Minute_Install)

But an even easier way to install Wordpress is to install it using Fantastico that is included with just about every cPanel installation on the planet.

You can log into your cPanel application, and at the bottom of all the icons you see on the main startup page is an icon with a “funny” name called FANTASTICO

Fantastico is way to install all sort of open source application on your server for FREE.

Find the WordPress link on the left hand side of the screen (in the blogs section), and click on it.

Then move across to the right hand side of the screen an click on the word that say “New Installation” - It actually a link but it doesn’t have an underline under it.

This pops up a very simple form (and the only form you have to fill out).

Put in your blog details, like what you are going to call it, what you want as login details plus a few other bits and pieces and press the button at the bottom.

Man and Van Company Start New Business Venture

Filed under: Business Affairs, Consumer Life — admin at 11:33 am on Monday, February 9, 2009

The man and van company that operates out of offices near Haydons Road in South West London has recently set up a fresh part of their internet site, offering a whole range of different types of boxes and packaging for sale. As well as dealing in wholesale, the brand new department provides customers with the ability to buy individual boxes, therefore allowing them to cater perfectly for their individual needs. This is to provide the customer with a service that suits them perfectly. From a business point of view it seems like a shrewd move from the company, as there is a lack of packaging available to those who are not interested in buying wholesale. Not only will it add to the service for the customers who want a man and a van, but it will even appeal to people who want to do a move themselves, but who also need boxes. Particularly with the economy as it is, it seems like a useful strategy to target a wide customer base. This particular Man and Van company has been operating out of Wimbledon for a number of years and prides itself on being a professionally run company with a whole range of employees, office workers and a fleet of top quality vans.
