Hendersonville TN Real Estate News

There are many great things about living in Hendersonville TN.  The climate is great, the people are friendly, and home values remain strong.  Hendersonville is located in Middle Tennessee….a few miles northeast of Nashville.

There’s always something to do….not only does Hendersonville have numerous festivals throughout the year – but it’s just minutes from all the entertainment in Nashville.

Old Hickory Lake is one of Hendersonville’s main attractions.  It’s one of the few lakes in Tennessee that offer lakefront living with many private boat docks.  The lake is on the Cumberland River with 22,500 acres of water and 440 miles of shoreline.  TVA controls the water level…and you can actually travel the river all the way to the Gulf of Mexico.

Although it’s not the county seat…Hendersonville is the largest city in Sumner County, which is one of the fastest growing counties in the State of Tennessee.  Actually, the population has grown 13% since 2000.  Many people live in Hendersonville but work in the Nashville area…and commute time is approximately 20 minutes.

The closest major airport is Nashville International, which is usually a 20-25 minute drive.

Most homes in the Hendersonville TN Real Estate area are owner occupied…with a median home value of approximately $250,000.00.  A large percentage of the population has a high school diploma….and many have a bachelor’s or associates degree.

Hendersonville typically ranks very low in crime statistics.  An occasional tornado is about the only natural disaster risk that we have.  We are below average on all other weather related risks.

Although Hendersonville is a very family oriented community…many households are without children.

An Unexpected Freezer Outage Can Be Very Costly

Filed under: Home Improvement Infos, Lifestyle Center, Shopping Hub — admin at 5:58 am on Wednesday, September 10, 2008

Did you have any power problems at your house? Did you fridge break overnight? Do you have concerns regarding the stuff you had in your freezer?

If this happens, don’t worry because there are easy to follow instructions for food safety.

If the food has warmed at all, whether thawed completely or just to room temperature, discard it immediately. Throw it out if it has been sitting at room temperature for longer than two hours.

If the food has thawed out, but is still cold, it is safest to cook it right away. As long as you have cooked your meal it’s fine to eat and stick it in the fridge to eat later.

You may notice ice crystals on your food and if so, it’s okay to freeze it again. You can put it in a cooler with some dry ice if there is no freezer available to you. These items will need to be cooked, because your freezer will not offer the same longevity that a normal freezer would offer.

If you notice any food with even a little freezer burn, you need to throw it away.

Sudden power outages cannot be avoided, but there are things you can do to prepare for them.
If your current refrigerator or freezer isn’t working like it should, your best bet is to purchase a new one. If you have the space, you should certainly consider a large American Style fridge freezer. You will find that it can make a big difference with just about any kitchen. A broad selection of American refrigerators and freezers is available for viewing at this site.

Four Tips To Help You Set And Enforce Family Boundaries

Filed under: Lifestyle Center — admin at 11:21 am on Sunday, June 8, 2008

A healthy sense of self comes from clear personal and family boundaries. Much like physical structures that define space, boundaries are what define us from one another. Healthy boundaries are integral to how we find privacy, personal respect and our sense of what we as individuals are entitled to. We all need boundaries for our own peace of mind.

Many people have difficulty creating and respecting healthy boundaries. More often than not, an individual’s ability or inability to create/respect healthy boundaries is a product of their upbringing. Families that struggle with boundaries tend to raise children that struggle with boundaries, who tend to raise children that struggle with boundaries and so on. Setting boundaries and limits for your child is often a painful experience and requires that a balance be struck between love and boundaries and the enforcement of rules. It is crucial, therefore, that you begin as early as possible to teach your children their physical and emotional self.

The development of healthy personal boundaries begins in infancy. As early as several months of age, newborns begin to develop an interest in the external world. If children are denied the opportunity to separate, they may begin to feel it’s “bad” to have their own identities. Eventually, this may result in difficulty setting limits with others. For healthy development, young children need the freedom to explore their surroundings within safe limits set by their caregivers.

Parents who establish boundaries with their children begin to teach children about boundaries. Children are not born with an innate sense of boundaries. It is your task as parent to teach your child “I end here and you begin there.” Closed doors and drawers must be respected - whether it’s the door of the parent or that of the child.

Let’s check out Matthew’s home:

Matthew is 4 yrs old and is usually allowed to wander the house freely as long as he is in no physical danger. He enters his parents’ room without knocking and is free to open drawers and closets. His parents indulge his behavior because they do not want him to feel that the family has any secrets. By being so permissive, Matthew has not learned to set boundaries and respect the privacy of others, especially those who are not part of the immediate family unit. When Matthew’s family hosts house guests, he still feels free to roam in to the bedroom of his guests. Not only does he roam, but he walks right in to the bathroom where one was trying to have his privacy!

The guest asks Matthew to leave the bathroom, a direction to which Matthew responds by throwing things, yelling and crying. Mom and Dad investigate and discover that Matthew was told he could not come in to the bathroom when others were using it, especially if he had not knocked.

Matthew’s parents were quite dismayed as to why their guest had reacted so strongly to his intrusion. Matthew’s parents had never set this boundary and re-enforced it. In order to not be guilty of intruding, acting inappropriately, Matthew needs to be taught that there are boundaries of others that need to be respected and that there are consequences for not respecting them.

Honest communication is the key to creating healthy boundaries.

Try These Tips:

1) Know Your Own Boundaries: In order to teach you must know the limits of your own personal space.

2) Be Clear: Teach your child exactly what you want them to know. Do not expect your child to anticipate the boundaries.

3) Reinforce: Practice what you preach and model good behavior. If you want your child to learn not to rummage through drawers, don’t go rummaging through theirs.

4) Follow-Through: Remind your child of the limits. When someone breaks the rules, there should be reasonable and logical consequences that are agreed upon ahead of time.

It is vital to teach your children as early as possible the boundaries that you want them to learn and incorporate into themselves as they move out to the world and will need to interact respectfully.

Getting a sexy stomach

Filed under: Fitness For All, Lifestyle Center, Universe Of Health — admin at 3:15 pm on Saturday, May 31, 2008

A flat, sexy stomach complete with six pack abs is the dream for everyone from fitness enthusiasts to the guy who sits on the couch and thinks about exercising. Having an awesome toned stomach is so highly regarded because it is difficult to achieve. In order to get the muscle definition you have to lose that body fat that is covering up your six pack. Everyone is different, but for many, the stomach is one of the last places they lose fat so it can be quite a commitment. To help lose the fat and tone the muscles in your abs there is plenty of abdominal exercise equipment.

One of my favorite workouts is to do some simple crunch variations on a mat at the gym. But when I want to kick it up a notch with abdominal exercise equipment, my first choice is the inflatable exercise ball. These come in various sizes and colors and they can really help improve your workouts if you know how to use them. Doing crunches on the ball forces you to use more muscles because you have to stop the ball from rolling around and keep your balance. There are a variety of other machines at the gym which allow you to set resistance against yourself as you do your crunches, but I like the ball best of all.

Is it “Couch” or “Sofa?” Which Goes Best with “Potato?”

Filed under: Lifestyle Center — admin at 12:52 pm on Wednesday, May 28, 2008

Blaine Wieland, President of Home Reserve, a fourth-generation
furniture company, settles the long standing debate about
whether it’s “a couch” or “a sofa”.

Fort Wayne, IN December 2005 — “When someone calls their
furniture a ‘couch’ I assume that they must be a comfort driven
person,” he explains. “The word conjures up images of a sleepy
Saturday afternoon or a quiet evening with a book. On the other
hand, when someone calls their furniture a ’sofa’ it seems to
imply that they think in terms of design and how everything
works together in their decorating plan.”

But besides personal style, which is the right term to use? The
answer is sofa. The reason is simply because couches are not
sofas. A couch is the armless variety of furniture that one
would have seen in the Victorian period, as in “fainting couch.”
It was a place for the ladies wearing those tight fitting
corsets which restricted breathing to be able to “sit a spell.”
The root of the word from the French has to do with “to lie
down.”

In our more modern times, we’ve added arms, taken off the legs,
and call it a sofa, which is in keeping with the Arabic roots of
that word which implies a meaning along the lines of “a bench”
or someplace meant for reclining or sitting, but not laying.

Blaine added, “So there it is. Here in America what most folks
have in their living room is a sofa. They may call it a couch
but a sofa by any other name is still…a sofa. Use this
information with caution. You can go ahead and feel superior
when you overhear someone using the wrong term but don’t point
it out. It won’t do to go around irritating all the ’sofa
potatoes.’”

Home Reserve, LLC makes ready-to-assemble sofas, loveseats,
chairs and ottomans. Sold directly to customers via the
Internet, this new furniture category offers built-in storage,
changeable covers in 60 fabrics and shipping in 5 to 10 business
days via UPS. Their web address is www.homereserve.com.

Just What Is Colic - And Does My Baby Have It

Filed under: Lifestyle Center — admin at 6:05 pm on Sunday, May 4, 2008

There are few things more nerve wracking than a crying baby,
particularly when nothing you do seems to console him. But, how
do you know when your baby’s symptoms have are just crying and
when he has colic? And, just what is colic, anyway?

No one knows exactly what causes colic, though many old wives
tales abound. Lots of older women will tell you that it is
caused by parental inexperience, but colic does not occur more
often in first children than in subsequent children, so they One
thing that seems clear is that most babies who are experiencing
colic have a stomach ache. Many are gassy, though a baby won’t
cry so inconsolably every time he has gas, so it is clearly gas
plus something, though just what is not clear.

Though we don’t know what colic really is, it is hard to miss
when your child is experiencing it. The inconsolable crying
usually begins in the late afternoon or early evening and often
lasts until the baby finally falls asleep for the night,
exhausted. Colic typically begins between two and three weeks of
age, and is over its worst by twelve to sixteen weeks, though
there are babies who start later and end later. My daughter
started at twelve weeks, but thankfully her bout of colic was
over in two weeks. A colicky baby will typically draw his knees
up to his chest, clench his fists and scream. He may act like he
wants the breast or bottle, but reject it as soon as you it’s in
his mouth. You will get the sense that your child is frantic,
and needs something very badly, but doesn’t know what.

If you believe your baby has colic, it is still wise to take him
to a doctor. There is no cure for colic, but you should rule out
other causes, such as an allergy to formula or some other
gastric disorder. Once your doctor has proclaimed the baby
healthy, you can chalk it up to colic.

Once you know that your baby has colic, though there is no cure,
there are some remedies you can try. Simethicone drops, which
are available over the counter as a gas medication for babies,
helps in some cases. In addition, there are numerous tricks you
can try such as taking a drive in the car or running the vacuum
cleaner that will work for some babies some of the time. But,
overall, colic is just a waiting game. Keep the baby (and
yourself) as calm as possible and look forward to the day when
it will be over.

First Checking Account - When is it Time?

Filed under: Lifestyle Center — admin at 6:18 am on Thursday, April 10, 2008

We all know that money doesn’t grow on trees, but we all need it
to survive. The use of cash will only go so far in life, as you
can’t send it through the mail. Checking accounts are relied
upon to manage our finances and to send in payments for cable,
phone, mortgages, etc. Even in this new era of ecommerce, it is
still necessary to have the resources that a checking account
provides.

When is the right time for kids to get their own checking
accounts? There is a lot of debate among parents and bankers on
this idea. Bankers will open a checking account for anyone who
they feel is fit to have one. Parents have two sides to the
story. Some parents think their kids should have one as soon as
they can because it teaches them valuable lessons. Other parents
believe their children don’t need checks at young ages.

There are some good questions to ask yourself in order to find
out if the time is right for checking responsibilities:

  • Do they need an account? What expenditures do they
    have?
  • Do you have any reservations in co-signing?
  • Are they responsible, i.e. hold a job, get good grades,
    etc.
  • Will they allow your intervention when it need
    be?
  • Will you be able to monitor the account on the
    internet?

Checking accounts and kids really revolve around common sense.
You should know if your child is capable of handling the
responsibilities of writing checks. What really helps the
arrangement is parental participation. Parents should be able to
help their kids with any questions they will have and teach them
how to balance and reconcile.

Benefits of Child Checking

While there may be some reservations about opening a checking
account for a minor, there are some benefits. The child will
be able to start managing money, and learn the ways of personal
finances. They won’t have to carry around cash with them all the
time. An ATM card with access to the account is really the only
thing they have to carry around.

The tracking abilities are probably the most welcomed aspect of
checking. Banking online has changed drastically in the last few
years. If you take advantage of all the possibilities, it is
rare that you actually have to write a check. It is also amazing
to track where the money goes. Expenditure tracking is good for
adults and kids. It is a way to eliminate unnecessary spending.

A relationship with a financial institution starts your children
interested in the whole process. Banks offer many other services
than checking. They offer bonds and certificates of deposit,
loans for cars and homes, and they also offer business financing.

Through anyone’s life, they rely on the bank for many services.
Banks are usually a low margin lender, giving customers more
buying power. Checking account
management at a young age leads to the importance of
financial stability, clean credit, and flexibility.

Only you know when your children are ready for their first
checking account. Take time to make the decision. Sit down with
your kids and talk to them about finances to open up the
dialogue.

Party Time: Choosing Party Invitations

Filed under: Lifestyle Center — admin at 7:54 am on Friday, April 4, 2008

Parties are thrown all the time. They are a great excuse to get together with friends and have a good time. There are also a great way to show admiration and respect for great people and their accomplishments. No matter what the occasion, a beautiful party invitation is the perfect way to set of any event with style.

There are so many different types of parties. The types of party invitations that are ordered depend on the type of party being held. There are many wonderful party invitations for birthday, graduation, business gatherings, holiday parties, and any other type of party. Choosing the right type of party invitation is the first step in ordering the right invitation.

Any type of party can have any number of themes. If it is a birthday party, how old is the guest of honor? Is it a milestone birthday? Whether it’s over the hill, or sweet sixteen, choose the right theme in the party invitation to create a unique feeling for the party.

Choosing how many invitations to order is an important decision. Invitation companies typically require a minimum order of about 50. If there are less than 50 invitees having extra invitations will come in handy for last minute invites or for mistakes. If there are more guests than the minimum order number of invitations, it is a good idea to order extras for anything that might occur.

Party favors are a great idea and can be incorporated right into the invitations. Choose from napkins, matchbooks, or scratch pads with the name of the guest of honor and the date printed right on them. Collectible glasses with commemorative phrases are also a great favor idea.

Whether it’s a grand milestone birthday or a simple holiday gathering, start the party off right with great party invitations and tie it all together with personalized party favors that guests can cherish and use to remember the event for a lifetime.
