Today, English is the most widely spoken and written language on the planet. English was first spoken in Britain by Germanic tribes in the Fifth Century AD. At that time it was known as the Old English (Anglo-Saxon) period. During the Middle English period (1150-1500 AD), many Old English word endings were replaced by prepositions like by, with, and from. We are currently in the Modern English period which started in the Sixteenth Century.

The number of words in English has grown from 50,000 to 60,000 words in Old English to about a million today; the largest of all languages by far. An average educated person knows about 20,000 words and uses only about 2,000 words in a week. Despite its widespread use, there are only about 350 million people who use it as their mother tongue.

It is the official language of the Olympics. More than half of the world’s technical and scientific periodicals as well three quarters of the world’s mail, and its telexes and cables are in English. About 80% of the information stored in the world’s computers (like this text) are also in English. English is transmitted to more than 100 million people everyday by 5 of the largest broadcasting companies (CBS, NBC, ABC, BBC, CBC). It seems like English will remain the most widely used language for some time.

The field of finance was pioneered by the United States of America as an extension of mercantilism. This was at a time when study of anything but economics was considered unworthy as compared to hard sciences like math, chemistry and physic and kissing up in the king’s court was highly regarded. The first business schools were established in the United States for this reason and still maintain their dominance. Finance has many words such as “put” and “call” for which there are no translations in other languages.

It is critical that you develop your financial vocabulary. My understanding of the financial vocabulary is vast compared to the average person because of my Ph.D. that I hold in the field as well as my investing experience as a futures and options trader and long term stock investor.

Many years of study at the doctoral level combined with direct practice in investments has allowed me to develop a vast financial vocabulary. This allows me to capture the essence of investment readings and conversations that the average person does not understand. Many investors fail not for lack of intelligence (I am of average intelligence) but lack of comprehension of what makes the stock market tick. This is due, in great part, to a lack of vocabulary that the common man on the street has not developed. Take the time to develop your financial vocabulary and you will excel over time as an investor!

This article is going to show you how you can use the dealer’s signature to beat roulette.

Not many people know this, but it’s absolutely critical.

“I don’t believe it! Impossible.”

Those are some comments I hear when I tell people that dealers can and do make a difference to the outcome of a spin. “BS! It’s random!”

I disagree. Ever since my book “101 roulette winning tips” was recently published, this single topic has attracted more interest than any other. Before I started playing Roulette seriously around twelve years ago, I would have agreed.

The wheel spins one way, the ball the other. The slightest variation in speed or place of release of the ball can send the next spin to a very different part of the wheel. But I am beyond being convinced now - I know that many dealers, though by no means all, can influence the outcome.

Some experienced dealers can influence the outcome by predicting the landing at neigbouring bet from the previous bet.

Even the best-intentioned dealers can get it wrong. Equally, they may be fearful of reprimand from the Pit Boss or higher if they go too far to help you.

So what are we talking about? Strictly, a neighbour bet is backing five numbers next to each other on the wheel e.g.: 15, 34, 22, 5 and 17. In the UK where call bets are common, the dealer places such bets on the racetrack. This is an oval shaped ring marked on the green baize. For example, a bet might be called as “22 and the neighbours by five.” This would mean that the player wanted five pounds on each of these five numbers. In Las Vegas, the Mirage has a racetrack now on it’s 25 dollar minimum table. This table has the single zero and if zero strikes, outside bets lose only half. This is a great deal and mirrors casinos in the UK and much of Europe.

Even if there is no racetrack, you can place the five chips yourself on the layout, backing them with any sum subject to the table minimum. This is an ideal bet if the dealer is into a trance and is spinning into these numbers as a signature spin. It is an excellent bet if the dealer is trying to help you by going for a repeat. The winning bet if 22 hits with one dollar on each of the five numbers is: Stake x 35 minus 4 losing chips = +31.

Even the worst spinner in the world spins repeats as a random event anyway, so after 22 has hit once as a winner, you should always add to your stake for the next spin. If the dealer is friendly and appears keen to help and / or to receive your tips, make clear you hope for a repeater (ain’t nothin’ sweeter!). Personally, I would then place something on the two numbers either side as well

I used the word strictly earlier to define the bet as being on five numbers. A dealer who did well for me and who received generous tips along the way told me he wanted a landing-strip of seven or eight numbers. Some dealers call it their signature. Anyway, I took his advice, covering seven adjacent numbers and until the Pit Boss had him taken off after I started staking twenty-five dollars on each of the numbers (having increased from only 2 dollars), this genius touched down as precisely as a jet on autopilot.

In France, where the dealers are greedy for tips, the older heads are amazingly accurate, spinning slowly to boost their modest salaries. In the better casinos in united states, I have found that even though tipping is banned and so the loyalty of the dealer cannot be bought, many of the older / more experienced dealers do spin neighbours. In some cases, this is down to a signature spin but some take a pride in accuracy to relieve the boredom of spinning for hours each day.

I spoke to a sharp guy of about thirty-five who told me he loved predicting where the next spin would land. He was unable to deliver a neighbour bet by intent. His signature spin was about 25% too long so that the ball landed predictably but not close to the previous number. That is equally useful - and indeed is better because to Inspectors and Pit Bosses, it is less obvious from the number boards that the dealer is spinning into a signature than if the last six numbers have been 34, 17, 22, 22, 5 and 34.

One reason why most players do not believe the concept of neighbour or signature betting is ignorance! Their idea of five close numbers is 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11. These are scattered round the wheel and are not neighbours at all. To read a number board and interpret what is happening is essential. It means knowing where the numbers are on the wheel. From this you can spot the repeats and near repeats - but gradually you will pick out the more obscure footprints where the ball will land in a different but predictable part of the wheel each time.

Las Vegas is full of talented dealers who can help. There is more to this than random selection of the first table and dealer you see.

Planting Impatiens

You’re in consistent and persistent massive prospecting action. You are honoring your commitment to speak with a minimum number of prospects daily while following up with all interested parties on a timely basis. Let’s look at some personal development structures you might put into place to gather feedback regarding how you can maximize your personal effectiveness with everyone you speak.

1. Rate Each Prospecting Communication You Have (1 = ineffective, self-absorbed, no rapport developed to 10 = powerful, rich value created, you’ve bonded with your prospect) With Respect to How Powerfully You Guided the Conversation

Follow the 5 steps below to ensure that your prospecting conversations are most effective.

Step 1: Create an opening to be heard.

Step 2: Determine if your suspect is indeed a prospect by getting permission to ask him a few questions before exploring your income opportunity with him.

Step 3: Speak your commitment to your prospect in some way.

Step 4: Create rich possibilities that inspire action.

Step 5: End by making a request that moves the conversation in a forward direction.

After each conversation you have, review each of the above steps to analyze how effectively you accomplished each point. Ask yourself “What worked about my conversation and what was missing, that if put into place, would support my next conversation to be more productive and powerful?”

Start your analysis by focusing first upon step1. How well did you create an opening with your prospect? Did you develop sufficient rapport and discover what was important to her or missing in her life? Did you uncover the seeds of discontent to which your opportunity might contribute? How could you have been more effective in breaking the ice and creating an opening for your prospect to want to explore your offering without feeling pressure or obligation?

Work on the elements you perceive to be missing so that your next conversation is more productive. Once you’ve developed a degree of proficiency with this step, go on to step 2. Ask yourself “Did I get my prospects permission to ask questions to explore how my opportunity may be a fit? Was I respectful of my prospect’s time or did I come across as pushy, arrogant and intrusive? Did I dump information rather than ask questions to open up the conversation? Did I talk at a person who had not yet agreed to look with me to explore a fit?

Again, rate from 1 to 10 how well you accomplished these objectives and how you can do so more effectively next time. If you realize that you dumped information and did not fully explore what was important to your prospect, feel free to go back and refocus on these areas. Say something like “Sally, I realized after we last spoke, I failed to ask you sufficiently about your goals and dreams. Can you please tell me, let’s assume that you agree to join our team in partnership and work with me toward your family’s economic freedom, how much money would you need to be earning monthly a few years from now for you to be able to look back on this day as the day you made one of the best decisions of your life?” Once you determine how much residual income your prospect wants to earn, ask “May I ask you one more question When you’re earning this amount of money each and every month, how would your life and the lives of your family be impacted? What would change? Would you buy a new home or car, travel more, work less, free yourself up to retire early, or put your kids through college?” You get the idea!

Don’t step over your oversight. Go back and re-address it. Make a mental note to do so with your next prospect as well. Once your satisfied with your progress in this area, work on step 3.

Ask yourself, “Did I speak my commitment first to exploring a fit without obligation or pressure and then to my prospect’s ultimate success? Does he know that I am and will be successful and if he chooses to join me, he can be as well? Does he know that I can show him exactly what it will take to reach the income level that will impact his life?” Similarly, with regard to step 4, did I create such value that my prospect feels honored to have had me share my opportunity with him? Did I demonstrate to him in simple terms what it would take for him to be successful in this business? Did I effectively show him that he already knows several people who would be great in this business and all he needs to do is set up a call for me to speak with them? Does he realize that he will not need to enroll a whole lot of people to be very successful in our company, just 4 to 6 business builders? Again, rate yourself, ask what’s missing and commit to put these items in place for your next conversation.

Lastly, look to see if you made a powerful request to move the conversation in a forward direction that will support your prospect’s needs and desires. Does she perceive your request as being in her best interest or self-serving to meet only your needs? Did you specify “by when” you are requesting that she take action and did she agree to your request? Have you set up a follow up time to speak so that you might support her to further learn about your company, products and offering to better see if it may be a fit for her life?

As you continue to analyze your effectiveness in each area, always ask yourself “How could I create more value? How could I be more charismatic and effective in my communication? What’s missing to have my skills reach the level of a masterful enroller?

Though this self-discovery will yield many productive insights, there will always be areas where we are unable to see our own limitations. Without requesting the feedback of others who are skilled in listening for what may be missing in your communications, your conversations will likely reach a plateau in their efficacy. This brings us to our second personal development structure.

2. Request that your upline sponsor or qualified business partner listen in on some of your calls or join you on some of your in-person presentations. Better yet, listen to or sit in on several other successful enrollers’ calls and meetings. Determine how they are able to move the conversation forward to achieve enrollment success. Pick up on important phrases, questions and techniques that you might incorporate into your presentations. Alternate observing others with having them listen to you. Consider their feedback as possible places for you to look to improve upon your own presentations.

3. Record an hour’s worth of several prospecting conversations. You can purchase an inexpensive telephone recording device along with a cassette recorder that can be used to create these tapes. Make a few copies of each tape and ask 3 of your coaches or upline partners to listen to them at a time that they can take detailed notes to analyze what worked about each conversation and what was lacking to have it come across as most powerful and productive.

4. Ask your prospects for feedback. Say something like “John, I appreciate you speaking with me today and listening to some information about our company, product line and income opportunity. I’m working on my listening and communication skills. Would you mind giving me some feedback with respect to a few areas? I would greatly appreciate your candid feedback.” If your prospect agrees, ask, “Did you feel I was respectful of your time and opinions? Did you feel that I was interested in looking to see if our opportunity might contribute to your life, without pressure or obligation? Did you clearly understand how you could become successful in our business? Did you think that I created rich value or was something lacking in that regard? Would you like to share any insights you may have about how I could be more effective in future conversations? Thank your prospect for her contribution. If she is glad to support your growth, you might take advantage of her generosity by asking if she knows anyone who may be interested in earning an extra income.

5. Hire a Coach

If you were a gifted athlete intent on qualifying to compete in the Olympic Games, you probably wouldn’t even consider the possibility of not having a coach to champion your success. Why would striving to achieve great success in your business and your life be any different? A coach is a person who is trained to ask the right questions to get you to identify missing elements in these arenas. When these missing pieces are put in place, the result is a significant difference in your productivity, happiness, fulfillment and your ability to impact others. Coaches go way beyond training. Training is about conveying information. Coaching is about gaining access to areas we are otherwise blind to discovering about ourselves and our businesses. Car rentals do have certain restrictions that apply, and it is always important to know the contracts and to know what you are and are not allowed to do before signing the agreement. While individual contracts may vary, and it is always important to read each individual contract you agree to, there are some basic common limitations with all car rental companies, and some others that are common enough to be worth asking about.

A common restriction actually involves age. Most car rental companies will not rent a vehicle to someone who is under 25 years old. There are a few who will rent to individuals who are between the ages of 21-24, but be prepared for an additional daily fee and possibly a longer list of restrictions than before. One restriction, at least from United States rental companies, is that taking the car to Mexico is never allowed. In addition, the far majority of rental agreements clearly state that the car should not go on any roads that are unpaved, whether gravel, dirt, or otherwise.

Generally, the car you rent needs to be returned to the location where you originally picked it up. There are some exceptions, though these matters should be discussed prior to signing the contract. Many of the larger companies will allow a car to be returned from one city in a state, to another city in that state. This happens often in Florida and California. Once again, this should be discussed before renting. The last thing you want is to drive from San Francisco to San Diego only to find out you need to return the car in San Francisco. Sometimes this will result in an extra charge, but depending on the rental company you use, it is possible to find deals on one-way rentals that come without an extra fee.

You need to ask if there is limitation on the places you can drive the car to, in-state, out-of-state, or even out-of-country. The out of state is an important one. You will be charged extra fees if they find out you went out of state. It used to be that there was no way for them to find this out, but now with GPS you can pretty much assume you will be caught, so be straight forward with the rental people on this matter.

Those are the most common restrictions put on rentals. If there is anything else you are concerned about: ask. Ignorance doesn’t get you off the hook, so ask as many questions as you need to in order to feel good about your contract, because in the end it is your dime.

How to Choose Your Garden Furniture and Make It Last

Before you buy any garden furniture it is strongly recommended that you do some research. Doing so will greatly increase your chances of buying garden furniture that is right for you and will last you a long time. Following are some important tips you need to consider before you buy.

Firstly decide whether you want stackable or foldaway furniture that will be put away in the shed or garage in winter or if you want permanent solid garden furniture that remains in situ all year round. If you want your garden furniture to be a permanent part of your garden for esthetic reasons then it is recommended that you go for heavy furniture made from hardwood, aluminum or wrought iron with rust proofing. It is well worth spending the money on the heavier more durable materials as this will be much more cost effective in the long run.

Choosing the right type of material and construction is paramount. Decide what kind of material for your garden furniture would best compliment your patio or garden. Select a material that will stay in balance with your garden.

Please ensure you follow the manufacturer’s instructions as usually this is a three stage process. Make sure the timber is completely dry when you apply the teak oil, otherwise the furniture will blacken.

Wrought iron garden furniture generally looks the best as it is usually hand crafted to give a unique look. The disadvantages of wrought iron furniture is that it is not as comfortable as wood and heavier to move around. Additionally, iron rusts so wrought iron garden furniture has to be especially coated to prevent it from rusting so make sure the supplier gives you at least a one year warranty against rust.

Finally, if you can, it is recommended that you invest in a cover for your garden furniture. Covers now come in all shapes and sizes and are well worth the money as they add years to the life of your garden furniture. Simply place the cover on your garden furniture every evening or when it rains, you will see the benefits in the long term.

EASTER: The Bunny and The Egg

Ever wonder why there’s an “Easter Bunny”? Ever wonder why he brings eggs? And dyed ones at that!

The Rabbit and the Hare, because of their frequent multiple births, are long time symbols of fertility. According to pre-Christian fertility lore, long before Jesus Christ was born, the Easter Bunny, aka the Easter Hare, represented the new life during the Spring season.

Children of that era believed that the “Magic Hare” would bring them presents during the Spring festivals. Often, these presents were painted eggs, symbolizing a resurrection or rebirth.

In fact, the Egyptians buried eggs in tombs while Greeks placed eggs on top of graves. The Persians and the Chinese considered the egg to be a special gift at their Spring celebrations.

As part of a gift wrapping tradition, different cultures decorated eggs by either dying them or wrapping them in different types of leaves. In 1880’s Germany, Easter eggs were substituted for birth certificates. The egg, dyed a solid color, had the recipient’s name and birth date etched into the shell.

Later, during the Christian period, many eggs were dyed red. It’s believed that this was done to honor the blood that Christ shed.

In England, children rolled eggs down hills on Easter mornings as a game. This signified the rolling away of the rock from Jesus’ tomb when he was resurrected. This custom was brought to the New World by British settlers.

And now, in present times, the tradition of the Easter egg roll, or hunt, continues on city hall and church lawns. In Washington,D.C., the annual Egg Roll is sponsored by the wife of the current President for children at the White House.

So, as a Latin proverb goes, “All life comes from an egg.” And, in the words of a famous T.V. commercial: “Cluck! Cluck! Easter Bunny!”
